In early December 2008, the National Film Archive acquired a new specialized lab for the Film Restoration Lab. Located at the Chełmska Archive, it was created to rescue, in a digital form, the oldest relics of the Polish cinematography. The cost of its construction amounted to nearly one million PLN, including 390 thousand PLN awarded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage under the Operational Programme - Development of Cultural Infrastructure and Art Education - for the purchase of specialized equipment and software for film image restoration.

In early December 2008, two graphic workstations were staffed by the first trainee graphic designers. The lab is headed by Mr. Paweł Śmietanka - a film operator and a renowned specialist in the field of digital processing of film images.
