The necessity of carrying out conservation works is related not only to the ethical code of the federation FIAF, to which FN belongs, but also to preserving the continuity of works in the film archive. Owing to documentation, the knowledge and professional practice of the entire generations of employees of the National Film Archive is protected and continued. Stored information can sometimes have an important impact on the effectiveness of undertaken actions.

It is also vital to preserve the memory of all elements of a film. During digital restoration, on the basis of the conducted tests and prior documentation, we can e.g. carry out editing anew with the view of arriving at the fullest possible version of the film. Meticulous documentation that keeps track of every intervention in the original material prevents a restored work from the distortion of sense.
