  • Treść

Berlin. As a result of police actions, members of a gang of human traffickers liquidate their transit point and move to their headquarters in Warsaw.

Rio de Janeiro. In an inn called Golden Duck runs a secret brothel owned by Elwira. Most of the time the women who work there have come from Europe in search of a better fate or fame. One of them is Franka Żurkówna. One of her clients promises to send a letter she wrote to her sister.

Dolinka Village. Miller, an owner of a shop, belongs to the gang. Accidentally, he reads a letter addressed to Maria Żurkówna, in which Franka explains his role and pleads her sister to notify the police. Miller visits Marczak in Warsaw. He is a fellow gang member who hides behind the pseudonym Wolak, working on a daily basis as an engraver. He forges Franka’s handwriting and writes his own version of the letter. Marta learns from it that Franka is supposedly doing very well, having been able to accumulate a huge fortune. Miller persuades her to go to America and promises help.

In the meantime, Lucy Ventana, another member of the gang, opens a dance academy in Warsaw. Iza Górska, a secret service agent, attends dance classes in disguise. The school is visited by Marczak and his friend Kennedy, a “chief of an American film studio”, who seeks new talents in Europe. His attention is caught by Iza and Róża. Kennedy promises them film careers but Róża’s aunt does not approve of the contract. She is at last persuaded by man’s assurance that he is going to marry Róża soon.

Maria bid her mother and his fiancée Walek goodbye before leaving to America. Her first step on the road is Warsaw, where she goes to see the engraver Wolak but he sends her to the immigration office. There, she learns she has to wait until the next day to take care of the formalities. Iza watches the bureau closely and asks Maria to call the police if she faces any problems.

In the evening, Maria, being hidden in the facility, sees Lucy and Kennedy visiting Wolak. She tells Wolak about Lucy’s contact with the police, while he clandestinely shares his knowledge with Kennedy. However, he does not admit him that he discovered Iza’s secret identity. That evening, they all end up at a dance party.

Soon, a wedding between Róża and Kennedy takes place in Kazimierz. The newlyweds go to Warsaw where Kennedy meets with Lucy and Marczak. They agree on bringing Iza over to Wolak. The engraver gives her the passport but minutes later etherise her and together with Lucy take outside the city to leave her on railway trails. In the meantime, Kennedy and Róża go by train to Gdynia.

Maria arrives in the United States. In Golden Duck she finds the sick and beaten Franka. She tries to help her but is overwhelmed and closed in her sister’s room.

Iza is miraculously saved from under the wheels and tells everything to her supervisor. Marczak is arrested and, being with his back to the wall, tells that the other members of the gang are already on the ship called Esperanza. Iza gets to Gdynia by plain. Police arrests Lucy on the ship, Kennedy tries to run away by jumping overboard, but the policemen manage to catch him in the water.

In the meantime, Maria gets beaten up by one of her clients. The next men she encounters are Polish sailors who are touched by her story and decide to help her. Thanks to a strategy drafted by the sailor men, Maria manages to escape the tavern and get on board a vessel heading back to Poland. The yearning Walek awaits her back in the house.
