Janeczka is a dancer who performs under the stage name Lulu. She meets Łatoszyński, a borderland landowner, who is so charmed with Lulu, that he takes her to his estate. After a few days, he is visited by his son Jurek, his son's fiancée Hania and her mother. To avoid any confusions, Łatoszyński puts Lulu in a forest cabin, where Kuźma falls in love with her. During a walk, Janeczka accidentally encounters Jurek and claims to be forester's niece. Jurek falls in love with her and starts meeting her regularly, which makes Kuźma extremely jealous.

One day, Łatoszyński organizes a birthday party. The party is also attended by Janka. When the guests find out who she is, a scandal breaks out. After some time Jurek finds Kuźma assaulting Janka in the forest cabin and a fight ensues, leading to Kuźma being beaten. He takes his vengeance by cutting a tree that falls on the young master Łatoszyński. Janka notifies the people in the manor about the accident. She realizes there is no place for her there, as she was treated merely as a toy. She goes back to Warsaw to her old, boring life.
