Professors Teofil Rączka and Moniek Platfus create a matchmaking company entitled "Romeo and Julie", which also offers courses on manners. Frania Krochmalska becomes their customer, taking part in the table manners course. Teofil and Moniek also manage to match Adela Gzyms and Walery Łyba. However, when they come to visit, they witness a great marital dispute. The couple, seeing their matchmakers, chase them all around the city, which ends at a police station, where Teofil and Moniek explain, that they are not responsible for the marital life of the couples they arrange.

Meanwhile, Frania loses her job. She leaves Warsaw and becomes a maid of the Koziegłowas family. Their son Roman loves Krysia, a forester's daughter. His parents, however, want him to marry Mary, their rich American friend's daughter, who is about to pay them a visit. Following the advice given by Frania, Roman asks the matchmaking company for help. Koziegłowas are visited by Teofil dressed up as Mary and Moniek pretending to be her butler. During the party, "Mary" demonstrates very bad manners and Roman's parents abandon the idea of their son marrying the eccentric American girl. Roman pays a handsome sum to Teofil and Moniek, which they use to create a new, elegant office for their company.
